Kasriel Hirsch Sarasohn (b. Paiser, Suwalki Province, Russian Poland, 1835 - d. New York City, Jan. 12, 1905) was an American Jewish journalist. In 1866, he abandoned his preparation for the rabbinate and emigrated to the United States, settling in New York City. In 1874, he founded the "Jewish Weekly," and the "Jewish Gazette," and in 1886, the "Jewish Daily News." When he began the publication of his journals there existed no other Jewish paper printed in Hebrew in the United States, and he had great difficulty in obtaining the necessary type. John Morton Eshleman (June 14, 1876-February 28, 1916) was an American lawyer and California politician who was that state's twenty-sixth lieutenant governor from 1915 to 1916. A native of the Midwest, Eshleman was born in Villa Ridge, Illinois, but went west in 1896 to work on the Southern Pacific Railroad. Eshleman received his B.A. from the University of California, Berkeley in 1902 and the next year he received his M.A. there. At Berkeley, he was president of the student government.
